Watch Rory Feek Read His New Book, ‘The Day God Made You,’ to His Daughter, Indiana

Rory Feek’s new chldren’s book, The Day God Made You, is out! The book, released on Tuesday, June 16, was inspired by his daughter, Indiana, who has Down Syndrome, so it’s only fitting that he celebrated the release by reading it to his 6-year-old.

After Rory finished reading the book, Indiana also pretended to read it as well, clearly thrilled to have a book written solely about her.

“The book came from my little girl Indiana’s almond-shaped eyes,” Rory explained (via CCMMagazine.com). “Although, on the day Indy was born, my wife Joey and I had no idea that she would have Down Syndrome and be a little different than her big sisters and other children — God did. That was a beautiful realization for me. Not just for how Indy is uniquely made, but how all of us are.

“From the families we have and the work we do, to the places we live and the dreams that we dream…He knew it all,” he continued. “We might hold the pen, but truly, God is the writer of our life stories”

While Indiana might seem different to some, The Day God Made You is a reminder to children –- and adults –– that everyone is special in their own way.

“We often forget that out of the billions of people that are in the world, each one of us is uniquely made, with our own unique features, personalities and lives that we will live,” Rory explained. “And what’s even more remarkable is that God knew all these things the day He made us.”

Indiana is the daughter of Rory and his late wife, Joey, who passed away in 2016 after a brave battle with cervical cancer.

“Life has a way of being OK,” Rory said on the Today Show earlier this year. “Life keeps going. The world keeps turning. It doesn’t mean that you don’t miss that person like crazy and that there isn’t a big void inside of you. But that also doesn’t mean that there can’t be a lot of joy and happiness and you can’t wake up every day pinching yourself, which is what I feel like I do.

“And I don’t think I would have known that exactly four years ago,” he added.

The Day God Made You is also available in a board book for young readers. Both versions can be purchased at Amazon.
