Scotty McCreery is loving his role of being a dad. The 29-year-old and his wife, Gabi, welcomed their son, Avery, into the world in October, and McCreery is enjoying being a father more than anything else.

“This is the best thing that ever happened to me,” McCreery tells The Lufkin Daily News. “Avery is wonderful and Gabi is just crushing it as a mom. I’m doing everything I can to be a good dad.”

McCreery’s Same Truck album came out in 2021, followed by his Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, out last November. The record became a way for McCreery to celebrate his journey in country music, which began after he won American Idol in 2011.

“I had achieved some goals and set some new ones,” McCreery explains. “I had married the love of my life and settled down a bit. My wife and I were starting to talk about having a family. I had originally recorded almost a complete album, and then COVID happened and I had a lot of time on my hands to write. I wound up scratching a lot of the original album and used a lot of songs created during the pandemic.”

McCreery is currently on his Damn Strait Tour, where he performs a lot of his hits from the past decade, including chart-topping singles like “Five More Minutes,” “Damn Strait,” “You Time” and more, along with some of his favorite songs recorded by other artists as well.

“I try to do a good mix of songs from throughout my career,” says the singer. “We also do a few cover songs that I enjoy singing. My band is made up of great musicians, so it’s always a fun time.”

McCreery will headline a benefit concert Saturday night, March 4, alongside Travis Denning. The show, Good for Country, is raising money for the East Texas Food Bank.

“I think we all have to help each other out when we can,” McCreery explains. “I’ve been fortunate enough to be in a position where I can shine a spotlight on good causes. Everyone needs a hand at some point in their lives. If you can help them, you should.”

McCreery is enjoying a Top 20 hit with “It Matters To Her.” He will join Brooks & Dunn for their REBOOT 2023 Tour, kicking off on Thursday, May 4 in Kansas City, Missouri, and wrapping up on June 17 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He will perform at the Grand Ole Opry on March 9. His Damn Strait Tour continues on March 10 in Grant, Oklahoma. Find music and tour dates at ScottyMcCreery.com.
