Michael Ray Officially Releases ‘Holy Water’ as Next Single

Fresh off his multi-week, No. 1 hit, “Whiskey and Rain,Michael Ray has a new song at radio. The Florida native just dropped the pure-country “Holy Water” track as his next single. The song, written by Ashley Gorley, Hunter Phelps, Ben Johnson and HARDY is from Ray’s latest Higher Education EP.

Ray, who has been teasing the video for the song on social media, says “Holy Water” is the perfect illustration of why he feels right at home in country music.

“This song is everything I love about Country music and the stories only this genre can tell,” Ray explains. “So excited to share more of the #HOLYWATER story with y’all very soon.”

Ray previously said that he was proud of all of the songs on Higher Education, which became the album he has always wanted to make, but never quite achieved, until this record.

“I think through that whole process, and the dark times, I found the light in it, and honestly just became very confident in who I am, and what I want to say, and what I want to do,” Ray told Everything Nash. “I realized that I wasn’t showing a hundred percent of myself. I wasn’t being the guy that I wanted to be, and I felt that. I think I just didn’t know that was what I felt. Maybe that’s insecurity. Maybe that’s fear of failure or whatever it is. But I think having everything taken away from you, like everybody did last year, the fear of failure goes away and fear just becomes a motivator.”

Both “Whiskey and Rain” and “Holy Water” sound like the pure country music that Ray grew up listening to, and hoped to someday emulate.

“It’s what I’ve always had in my head,” the 33-year-old told Everything Nash. “I guess I always knew that I wanted more of a traditional country sound. That’s what I grew up on, what I listen to, to this day. And I just always felt like that was the record I wanted to make. It took this year, I guess, to really realize that on my own.”
