Morgan Wallen On Being a Dad: ‘He’s What’s Important to Me’

Morgan Wallen might have a superstar career, selling out large venues all over the world, and breaking numerous records for his music, but that isn’t how he defines himself, at least not anymore. The 29-year-old says it’s being a dad to his son, Indigo, born in 2020, which now takes high priority over anything else, including his music.

“I think the most important thing for me over the past couple of years, I’m a dad now,” Wallen admits on Breakfast Television. “That’s really given me something different to live for. I don’t know if I’d say I was selfish, but I probably was before that. But now things just have a whole different meaning for me. So even in the highs, in the lows, I always have him. All the time, he’s there. He’s what’s important to me.”

Wallen’s original goal was to become a professional baseball player, until an injury forever derailed those plans. Still, he is already passing on his love of sports to his two-year-old, even at such a young age.

“He’s starting to understand,” Wallen says. “I got him a little tee and bat and ball, and trampoline with a basketball goal on it, and all that stuff. I’m definitely trying. He’s not completely interested yet, but he’s starting to show signs that he might be. I’m not going to make him love sports, but hopefully, he does.”

One thing Wallen isn’t focusing on right now is romance. The Tennessee native says he is happily single and plans to stay that way for a while.

“I had a girlfriend, but not recently,” Wallen tells Lon Helton on Country Countdown USA. “I don’t have anybody right now. It’s kind of hard, just how busy I’ve been. I’ve got my son, I’ve got an album, I’ve got a tour. It’s hard to make time for that. I want to, though. I think I’m coming up on my settle down days. But I’m not in a hurry.”

Wallen is celebrating a second week at the top spot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with his latest album, One Thing At A Time. The project was recorded while his son was in the studio with him.

“He started coming in there and banging on guitar strings and deleting songs for Joey and stuff like that,” Wallen tells Billboard with a laugh. “But honestly, he brought a lot of joy into the room. He brought a new energy that we hadn’t had in there before.”

One Thing At A Time includes “Thought You Should Know,” a song he wrote with  Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon. The song spent three weeks at the top of the Country Airplay chart.

Wallen will embark on his One Night At A Time World Tour on April 15, performing 39 dates in four countries, spanning two continents, including 17 stadiums, plus numerous arenas and amphitheaters. ERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman will join Wallen for all dates, while HARDY and Parker McCollum will join the tour for select dates.
