Scotty McCreery Calls His Wife Gabi His ‘Biggest Cheerleader’

Scotty McCreery has been dating his wife, Gabi, since high school. It’s Gabi who has been with McCreery, from his early days on American Idol to watching him sell out large venues, and who remains his biggest supporter and advocate now.

“Gabi has been a rock for me,” McCreery told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution of his wife, whom he wed in 2018. “I wouldn’t be here without her. She’s been here for all the ups and downs and has always been my biggest cheerleader.”

The two welcomed their firstborn son, Avery, into the world in 2022. For McCreery, nothing tops the feeling of being a father, and watching their child grow and learn together.

“It’s the coolest thing,” McCreery said. “Way cooler than Idol or anything, just being a parent, seeing Avery grow up and develop his own personality. I can’t wait to see him grow up.”

It was American Idol where the world first got introduced to McCreery’s deep country bass voice. Immensely grateful for that experience, the 30-year-old  is even more grateful that now, 13 years later, people know him for much more than his time on a reality TV talent show

“People are more likely to come up to me and tell me how ‘Five More Minutes’ was their wedding song than talk about Idol,” McCreery said. “That means the world to me. I didn’t go on the show to be a TV guy. At the same time, I have nothing negative to say about Idol. I appreciate that they gave me my start.”

McCreery has had plenty of accolades and achievements, including hit singles, sold-out shows and more. But nothing will ever compare to his upcoming biggest honor so far, when he is inducted as the next member of the Grand Ole Opry.

“All my heroes have played that stage,” McCreery reflected. “But I do feel like an old soul. I have a deep appreciation and respect for what the Opry means to country music. It really changed the course of history back in the day.”

McCreery was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry by Garth Brooks, a gesture that made the invitation that much sweeter.

“He’s such a busy man,” McCreery said. “The night before, he was in Vegas. He flew to Nashville just to be there for me. That meant the world to me.”

McCreery has a Top 20 hit with “Cab In A Solo.” The song is the debut single from his next album, which also includes  “Can’t Pass the Bar” and Slow Dance, and “Love Like This,” the latter which McCreery will release on February 9, a song about Gabi and Avery.

The North Carolina native just kicked off his Cab In A Solo Tour, which began with a run of sold-out shows. Find all of his music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
