Scotty McCreery brought his current single to a major TV network. The 29-year-old performed “It Matters To Her” live on ABC‘s Good Morning America, as his wife, Gabi, and seven-month-old son, Avery, looked on.

“It Matters To Her” is from McCreery’s Same Truck  album, released in 2021. The song was written by McCreery, along with Rhett Akins and Lee Thomas Miller, inspired by Gabi.

“I’m a lyric guy,” McCreery says of the Top 5 single. “I’m a story guy, a message guy. And this story was just us sitting back, talking one day, me and Rhett and Lee Thomas Miller and just being like, ‘Man, you know what I’m learning? It’s just the littlest things. Like if I go downstairs and just empty the dishwasher, and she doesn’t have to tell me to stop watching golf and go do it, it’s a little thing, but it adds up over time.’

“I’m learning as a young husband, that’s what adds up and makes the difference,” he adds. “And I can still work on it. Like, I still shave and leave my beard hair in the sink. and she yells from downstairs like, ‘What the heck?’ But, it’s a cool song to sing.”

“It Matters To Her” is the final single from the Same Truck era, which also included Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, out last year. The American Idol alum is hard at work on a new album, one he says will be very, very country, and deeply personal to his own life.

“I think what I’ve found that works for me and what I like doing is pretty autobiographical stuff and writing about life,” McCreery shares on Audacy’s Katie & Company. “So there will obviously be baby songs on this record, but there will be other stuff too. It’s country. Our steel guitar player, Mike Johnson, was in the studio with us, and he’s like, ‘Man, I actually get to play country music this week!’ He was loving it, and I love singing that stuff, so hopefully folks are ready for a little dose of country music.”

 

A lot has changed in McCreery’s life and career over the last few years, including marriage, fatherhood and five consecutive No. 1 hits. Those changes will all come out on his next project, and the song he is writing.

“You kind of realize what’s important and what’s not,” McCreery concedes. “I think that’s coming through the songwriting, and what I’m writing about. Things have definitely changed in a lot of ways, but definitely the songwriting.”

McCreery is currently on the road with  Brooks & Dunn, serving as the opening act on their REBOOT 2023 Tour. He will be inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and hints that he has something else coming later this year at a football stadium, which he can’t announce yet.
