Thomas Rhett Joins Brandon Lake For Live Version of ‘Talking To Jesus’ [WATCH]

Thomas Rhett joined Brandon Lake at the Ryman Auditorium last month, where the two performed “Talking to Jesus.” The song was originally recorded and performed by Lake on the Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music album Old Church Basement. out in 2021.

“Collaborating with Thomas Rhett, a friend who I admire, respect, and draw inspiration from, has been a dream come true,” Lake says. “This song has allowed us to create something that is a further testament to the transformative power of God’s presence in our lives. I’m humbled and blessed by this, and excited to see the impact of this for years to come.”

“Brandon is such a great artist and an even better person – I’m lucky to call him a close friend,” Rhett adds. “We’ve had a lot of good conversations about our faith and this night at the Ryman really captured that. Everybody in the room came together – it’s definitely one of those moments I will never forget.”

Ahead of the song’s release, Rhett shared on social media how important this song has been to him, and his gratitude that it led to a close friendship with Lake.

“I heard this song for the first time a couple years ago while driving the kids to school and it just hit me like a ton of bricks,” Rhett explained. “Since then I have become great friends with Brandon. We had talked about collaborating for a while and when I found out he was playing a show in Nashville, he asked me to come sing a song with him. Obviously, I chose this one because of the impact it has had on my life. We wrote a new verse and got to play it at the Ryman.”

Rhett, who also appeared on Chris Tomlin‘s Chris Tomlin & Friends album in 2021, has been very vocal about his Christian faith, even as he continues to carve out a superstar career in country music.

“Everybody has got their non-negotiables in life,” Rhett told Esquire last year. “For me, my faith has gotten me through some pretty strange times. I feel like I have seen miracles happen. And I bet a lot of people have, and I bet a lot of people say that how you see those moments stems from whatever you believe in. Everyone is entitled to whatever they want to believe, but for me, it’s been so prevalent in my life that that’s one thing I am not afraid to talk about.”
