Tim McGraw Covers Merle Haggard’s ‘If We Make It Through December’ [WATCH]

Tim McGraw is channeling one of his favorite country singers, while celebrating the Christmas season. The 55-year-old just shared a cover of him singing Merle Haggard‘s “If We Make It Through December.” The song was included on both Haggard’s Merle Haggard’s Christmas Present (Something Old, Something New), released in November of 1973, and was also the title track of Haggard’s 16th studio album, released the following February.

McGraw shared the Christmas tune on social media, captioning the video by saying, “Little Holiday song to get us in the spirit. Here’s one of my favorites.”

In 2020, McGraw released “It Wasn’t His Child,” followed by another Christmas song, “Christmas All Over The World,” which was released in 2021. While the father of three loves celebrating the holidays, his family’s traditional meal isn’t exactly typical, at least in America.

“Our family tradition for years has been pasta,” McGraw said ahead of last year’s CMA Country Christmas. “Spaghetti and meatballs on Christmas Eve. And that’s sort of my job as dad to prepare the spaghetti and meatballs. That’s a tradition that I’ve had since I was a child; I hope it carries on with them.”

McGraw loves all things holiday-related, but there is one Christmas that stands out to him, when he was still a child, but realized his role in his family had changed.

“I think one thing that I remember as a kid that was sort of a turning point for me growing up for me is, I grew up with my mom and my two sisters,” McGraw recalled to BMLG. “I remember being, I don’t know, probably 11 years old or so and my mom asking me to put together a doll house for my sisters. That was the first time that I actually got to participate and be the man of the house with my mom and put together all the Christmas stuff for my sisters. And that was sort of a big graduating to a young man, in my eyes, thing for me.”

The Louisiana native revealed earlier this year that he was working on a new album, the follow-up to his 2020 Here on Earth record.

“I’m in the middle of it,” McGraw revealed on Country Countdown USA in July. “I’ve probably mixed eight so far, and will record a few more soon. I’m always looking to beat what I did last time. I’m sure we’ll have something off the new album here before too long. I don’t know when the album will drop.”
