Trace Adkins to Perform Free Benefit Show in Mayfield, Kentucky

Trace Adkins is lending his time and talents to help those in need. The Grand Ole Opry member will perform a free show in Mayfield, Kentucky on Saturday, May 20th, at the Mayfield High School’s CFSB War Memorial Stadium.

“We just want to stop in Mayfield and do a show and just give those people a pat on the back,” Adkins revealed on the Today Show, explaining why he chose the small, rural town for the free concert.

“December 10, 2021, an incredibly strong tornado came through the middle of downtown and just destroyed all of those historic buildings downtown,” said the singer. “Most of those buildings were over 100 years old. It was just tragic. That tornado actually I think killed over 80 people, but right there in Mayfield, it was 24 people that got killed when that tornado came through. It was a tragedy.

“We were looking for a place to do a video for the song on our new album called ‘Somewhere in America,'” he continued. “The song just talks about somewhere in America, there are still people that have that indomitable spirit, that resilient skin. And we could think of no place better that exemplified that than Mayfield, Kentucky.”

Adkins is making the stop as part of his Somewhere in America 2023 Tour, and is already eager to hit the stage.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Adkins said. “And the people that I’ve spoken to from Mayfield have all been just beautiful people.”

“Somewhere in America” is on Adkins’ latest The Way I Wanna Go album, released in 2021.

“I wanted to do a 25th anniversary record,” Adkins told Everything Nash of the ambitious, 25-track project. “I could not let my 25th anniversary go by and not be commemorate it somehow. That’s a milestone in my life and I wasn’t going to let it go by unnoticed, if for nobody else other than my family, I wasn’t going to let that go. I’m gonna make you listen to this.”

The Louisiana native embarked on his Somewhere in America Tour in February, and will wrap up the tour in October. The benefit concert is presented by Kioti Tractor. Find music and tour dates at TraceAdkins.com.
